Shabbat Celebration

Every Friday we have a Shabbat celebration.

We knock on our Shabbat box to see what's inside...

Ella and Gabey are curious about what's inside the box.

Nechama Leiba finds the kiddush cup.

Peretz is setting out the Challah cover.

After the table is set we come sit around to welcome the Shabbat.

Morah Sarah lights the Shabbat candles.

We all cover our eyes and say the Bracha.

Then we sing our favorite Shabbat songs.

Shabbat Shalom!

Sneak Peak of our Day

The children are becoming familiar with their daily routine.
First is free play where the children explore the various centers.

Sara and Leah shovel sand at the sensory tub.

Nechama Leiba and Peretz prepare breakfast in the home corner.

Yakir and Ella work at an art project, gluing red squares onto apple cutouts.

After cleaning up we meet for davening (praying) with song and movement.
(pictures coming soon).

Next is snack time.  Thank you to the McCaffrey family for this weeks fruit!

We line up with our shapes to go outside.

Outside time is when we use practice our gross motor skills.

Gabey is thrilled to be going down the slide.

Yakir does his daily exercise and jogs around the yard.

Sara and Shir use their big muscles to climb the equipment.

When we go back inside, we meet again to explore the upcoming Chag or seasonal topic.
Here we explore the tastes of apples, honey as well as lemon, orange and jelly. Mmmm...

Then it's lunch time.  Thank you for packing us healthy, yummy lunches!

After lunch, we brush our teeth before taking a well deserved nap.

Shofar Science

We have been exploring and learning all about the Shofar!

Yakir and Shir try to blow the little shofar, but no sound comes out!

We invite Peretz's Tutty to come and blow us a working Shofar.
It makes a loud noise.

Gabey is feeling how smooth the Shofar is.

At snack, Shir spots the picture of an 'animal'.
We bring it to the table and see it is a ram with horns.

Morah Sarah takes out the little shofarot and puts them on her head like the ram.

We try the horns on Gabey.

Outside, we hear another loud noise.
The children listen and watch as the gardener mows the lawn.

Home Made Playdough

Today we made our own gluten free play dough!

The children eagerly came to the table to help.

Sara poured the rice cereal, Peretz poured the apple sauce.

It was fascinating to see the ingredients turn into a soft dough.

Leah put some pieces on her plate.

Marnie gave it a squeeze.

Nechama Leiba poked the shofar into her playdough.

Shir rolled her playdough into a snake, "sssss," said the snake.

Its Friday! Challah Baking

What an interesting texture. What can the Yeladim do with the challah dough?
Roll it.

Squish it.

Shir: "I made a roll!"

Pinch and poke it.

Communication with out words

Often at the beginning in a 2's classroom, although many children have words, while all is still new the classroom will be quite quiet and as the year progresses the vocabulary will emerge. Although there are few words there is much communication! Below are a few examples from today.
Peretz was softly touching Ella's arm. He likes her and wants to show her he notices her.

Peretz wanted a toy Shir was playing with. He followed her quite upset as she found many opportunities to keep it. (She was quite creative at that! :)

Then Peretz thought of an idea. He found another animal to give Shir so he could trade for the one he wanted.

Sara is offering her doll to Eden. Eden moves her body to show she is not interested in playing with it now.

Then Sara went and offered the doll to Ella. Ella also used her body language to convey to Sara she did not want to play with it.

Sara, understanding her friends not being interested in the doll at the moment went to go dance with the doll. It is absolutely fascinating to watch how the Yeladim communicate 'silently.'
