Zev's Show & Tell - Daisy his dog

Zev introduced the Yeladim to his beloved dog Daisy.

Daisy was indeed very delightful and gentle with the Yeladim and they really enjoyed his visit.

Zev demonstrated how to feed a snack to Daisy.

David was very brave and fed Daisy as well!

He even kissed him! It was so cute to watch!

Then Binyamin warmed up and also pet Daisy.

It was wonderful to meet Daisy and I hope the Yeladim have conquered some of those made up dog fears :) But as Zev's Dad put it, only pet a dog if the owner tells you that you can because not all dogs are as gentle and friendly as Daisy.

Color Mixing in a neat way

In continuation with our 'color mixing' experiments the Yeladim were presented with yellow and blue paint in a Ziploc bag taped down to the table. The rest was up to them to explore, experiment and come up with new ideas.

After touching the paint David checked his hands to see if they got messy :)

As the Yeladim were squishing the paint around the colors started mixing.

Zev: "I've got an idea! I can use a car to help mix my colors."

 

Indeed that was a creative idea and became very popular amongst the Yeladim.

Introduction to the Aleph Bet

A fundamental understanding that was intended to be transmitted to the Yeladim was how holy and special the Aleph Bet are. Unlike other Alphabet letters where the purpose of the letters/symbols is to create words to communicate with others the Aleph Bet is holy and each letter has a life message to teach each individual and not only does it connect you to others but the Aleph Bet can connect a person to G-d.

The Yeladim took a visit to the Shul. They helped open the Aaron Kodesh.

 As the Rabbi opened the Torah, our holiest and most special object in Jewish life they Yeladim had a first hand peek at what was inside the Torah!
Morah: "What do you see inside the Torah?"
Zev: "Shema! A Mezuza!" (Zev remembered looking at the 'Klaf' rolled up inside the Mezuza and noticed the similarity!!)
It was Aleph Bet letters in the Torah! We found each of the Aleph Bet that is the first in each of the Yeladim's names. Then we discussed what the letters in the Torah are telling us. The letters in the Torah I explained were telling us to do Mitzvot. I will be sending home 'Mitzvah Notes' in the shape of Aleph Bet letters and please use them to record the Mitzvot that your Yeladim do and send them in so we can read them!

 

After the Torah was wrapped up the Yeladim all kissed the Torah.

When we got back to our classroom there was a beautifully framed Aleph Bet chart that had each of the Yeladim's pictures next to the first letter of their name. The Yeladim were so excited about finding all their friends letters.

Then they got to lick chocolate syrup that was on the letter to remind them how the Aleph Bet letters are there to help guide us through life in a sweet way.

Texture painting leads to color mixing

Binyamin was painting with the color Blue.

 Zev was painting with the color Yellow.

Then Zev asked for some Blue paint.

As he started painting the 'blue' he was painting with did not look like the blue on Binyamin's art! It was more like GREEN!

Morah Esther:" But I didn't put any green paint on there for you!"

Zev: "That's why if you mix Yellow and Blue together you get green. My Mom told me."

 Zev: "Its looking greener and greener!"

When Zev was done painting and ready to wash up he commented, "That was really cool!"

Science & Math Experiment

Blue and Yellow ice cubes were placed in the water table. The Yeladim spooned them into bowls, poured them back and forth, tried to fill each bowl to capacity with out falling out.... As they were interacting with the ice cubes they started to melt.

How is there water in the table I only put ice cubes?

Zev: It turns to water.

 The Yeladim noticed the water was GREEN. Hmmm how is there GREEN WATER? The ice cubes are yellow and blue?

Binyamin: Hashem did it.

So the question still remains. Lets see how we can follow up with more 'color mixing' activities to come up with a concrete answer. 

Sensory snow like experience

I snapped about 25 shots while the Yeladim were engaged in this snow experience (Shaving cream). Captivating their engagement with the activity and thrill were priceless! I narrowed it down to these 6 photos.

Hibernation

For children to truly internalize a concept as many different tactile experiences they can engage in the more internalized the concept will become. Below in another way the Yeladim 'experienced ' Hibernation.
Pictures of animals that hibernate were covered with Chocolate spread. They were hibernating. When it became Spring the Yeladim needed to take off the the chocolate spread - let the animals out of their hibernating places. The Yeladim thoroughly enjoyed this activity!

 

Zev asked for a napkin and chose to wipe off the chocolate spread. 

Finally the animals appeared and it was quite messy and fun!
