Snow Science Experiment

The Yeladim brought snow back to the class from the playground. At lunch time, the Yeladim took a look at the snow. 

Teacher: "What happened to the snow?"

The Yeladim process the question as they look at bucket of snow again. 

Zalman: "It's gone."

Benjamin: "It's water."

Teacher: "The snow turned into water in our warm classroom."

The Yeladim wanted to make the water snow again. The bucket of water was put outside. They will see what happens to it tomorrow.

The Process of Goup Making

Sequencing is understanding how a series of objects, events, and time occur in a specific and logical order. It is a crucial skill which is relevant to all areas in life. This skill gives children the ability to complete a task, play, begin to understand time etc. It necessary for retelling stories and eventually reading comprehension. For children to be a part of a process from beginning to end  is tremendous tool which aids
 in their development of this skill.


Benjamin came over to the table and saw two ingredients - glue and liquid starch and a pan. He said "Let's make something."

The Yeladim rolled their sleeves up. 

 

They poured the ingredients in. 

It's time to mix. They began  with their hands and
then asked for popsicle sticks to mix with. 

Benjamin: "A rainbow"

Peretz: "Menorah" 

Zalman came over to mix too. 

Zalman: "There's no more glue."

Teacher: "What happened to the glue?"

Benjamin: "It changed."

Teacher: "Is the goup ready?"

A conversation came up about putting the goup in the oven.
Then the Yeladim remembered that goup is only for playing with.

Benjamin: "Challah and latkes go in the oven."

Zalman: "And cakes too."



The goup is ready to play with now.

The Yeladim were a part of an activity with a beginning, middle and end. They experienced beginning with the ingredients, doing the necessary steps to create something new and play with it.   

Snow!

 The Yeladim bundled up for some outdoor play in the snow. They ran, played and shoveled  the snow. What a fun way to to experience all that winter has to offer ans certainly a great way to move around and exercise. 

It's cold outside!

When Benjamin came to school today, he told us that it was cold outside. 

Each day when the Yeladim go outside for outdoor play, they discuss the weather.

Yeladim: "It's cold."

Teacher: "What are you wearing to help to stay warm?"

Yeladim: "Coats"

Back inside, the Yeladim played a hand rubbing game to warm up and discussed what else we can wear and do  to help keep us warm.

Zalman: "Gloves and put hands in pockets."

Peretz: "Hat."

Benjamin: "Coats, the hood."

Welcome Back!

It was wonderful to be back at school today. It was vacation and the Yeladim and Morah Malkie did not come to school. The children were so happy to see each other this morning and greeted each other with a big hello and even some hugs.  The Yeladim have noticeably grown and matured.  Here are some snap shots of indoor play today.
