Lulov and Etrog

The Yeladim saw a picture of Peretz opening a box. We were wondering what was inside. Some of the Yeladim thought it was an apple. But then we looked again, it was an etrog! On Sukkot, we hold a lulov and etrog together and shake it. 

When Hilary is done shaking the lulov and etrog, she passes it to Peretz.

As the Yeladim shake the lulov and etrog, we sing the following song:

Did you ever shake a lulov

A lulov

Did you ever shake a lulov

And an etrog too?

Shake it upwards 

And downwards

And forwards

And backwards

And an etrog too?

We made a lulov and etrog of our own.

Sukkah

On our way out to the playground, we stopped to see a sukkah.

The Yeladim noticed many things about the sukkah. Benjamin pointed out the door, Zalman showed us two windows. We saw a light and tables as well. We thought if we had the above mentioned items in our homes. We did.  A sukkah has many similarities to a house. But when we looked up, we did not see a ceiling. We saw schach!

The Yeladim found some pieces of schach on the floor. 

Zalman found some brown schach and Benjamin found green schach. 

We saw pictures of Benjamin helping to build his sukkah at home. Zalman said "I'm going to make a sukkah with my Tatty, a blue one."

We also saw pictures of Zalman making challah. Zalman told us that he was making it for yom tov. We wondered if we'd eat the challah in the sukkah. Zalman thought we'd have shabbos party in the sukkah too.

Shabbat

At our Shabbat Celebration, the Yeladim hold hands as we sing Shalom Aleichem.

It's time for  kiddush. The Yeladim  pour grape juice into their kiddush cups. One of the many skills which children practice as they pour is critical thinking. They have to think about how fast to pour, how long to pour,  when it is time to stop pouring which helps with mathematical and scientific thinking. Giving children the opportunity to master self help skills builds independence and self confidence as well. 

The Yeladim love drinking the kiddush!

Shabbat Shalom!

Color Sorting Activity

The Yeladim enjoyed sorting different colored shapes into colored eggs. 

Honey Cake

We made our own honey cake at school today. The Yeladim had fun pouring and mixing the ingredients for the batter. 

The Yeladim wanted to add raisins to the honey cake.

Yom Kippur

At meeting time, we the yeladim saw items which we wear on Yom Kippur. Everybody had a turn to try on white clothes and slippers.
