Sensory Soil

The Yeladim played with soil on the light box.

Tu B'Shevat Show and Share

The Yeladim were taking in the various Tu B'Shevat fruit.

The fruit were brought to the table and the Yeladim made
fruit kebabs in honor of Tu B'Shevat.

Seed Collection

The Yeladim enjoy many fruits and vegetables at snack. It is a great opportunity for the Yeladim to be exposed to a wide range of healthy snacks. Many of the Yeladim are more likely to try a new food when they see theirs peers eating it.
The fruit or vegetable is brought whole to the table and prepared with the Yeladim.  The Yeladim discuss the shape, color and contents of the fruit. The Yeladim remove the seeds and collect them in containers.

The Seed Collection is constantly growing. Today we added date seeds.

Philip Ratner Museum of Art

The Yeladim took in the sculptures of the children's characters.

Benjamin made his body into a witch sculpture by making
his hands into a pointy hat just like the witch.

The Yeladim created their own sculptures by poking
various materials
into a styerfoam base.

Proud of their sculptures!

Pine cone Seeds

Often, the Yeladim notice and talk about the pine cones on the tree near the playground. On a walk today, the Yeladim wanted to collect more pine cones to
to bring back to the classroom.

Benjamin: "Let's see if there's seeds inside the pine cones."
The Yeladim proceeded to pull of the scales of the pine cones and found the tiny seeds inside.

Teacher: "Why do you think Hashem makes seeds grow inside a pine cone?"

Zalman: "So blue trees will grow."

Benjamin: "Red trees."

The Yeladim used their experiences of finding seeds in fruits to make  the correlation of seeds being inside pine cones too. They used their previous knowledge of the purpose of seeds are for regrowth to hypothesize that the pine cone seeds will grow into trees.

Snack

The Yeladim refined the muscles in their fingers as

they put cheerios onto a pipe cleaner.

It made a great snack too!
